As I mentioned in my previous post, the Easy Task Alexa skill supports advanced reminders. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up automatic Alexa reminders for recurring tasks.

Two Ways to Create Alexa Reminders with Easy Task

  1. After Completing a Recurring Task with a Due Date
When you complete a recurring task with a due date and reminders (e.g., @day@#T08:30#), Easy Task automatically schedules a new reminder based on the next due date.
  2. Using a Custom Alexa Routine for Recurring Reminders
For even more control, you can create a custom Alexa routine to check and set up recurring reminders automatically. Here’s how to do it!

Step-by-Step Guide for Advanced Recurring Reminders with a Custom Alexa Routine

To qualify for this setup, ensure:

  • You have the PRO version of Easy Task (one-time purchase).
  • The task does NOT have a due date.
  • The task notes include a valid reminder template, such as:
  • @day@#T07:30# - Daily reminder at 7:30 am
  • @weekday@#T08:30# - Weekdays only, 8:30 am
  • @monday,wednesday,friday@#T15:00# - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3 pm
  • #2025-06-23T09:00# - Fixed date: June 23, 2025, at 9 am

Note: Templates must include the “T” (e.g., #T08:30# is correct; #08:30# is incorrect).

How to Configure the Alexa Routine

  1. Open the Alexa app and navigate to Menu > Routines > Your Routines > New (+).
  2. Name Your Routine, e.g., “My reminders.”

3. Select WHEN > Every Day at a time like 1 am (this checks for new reminders daily).

4. Click Next > Add Action > Skills > Your Skills > Easy Task.

5. Choose “Create Alexa recurring reminders” custom task. Optionally, specify a task list name to limit reminders to that list. If you leave it empty, reminders from all task lists will be created on that Echo device. To set up different Echo devices to receive reminders for specific task lists (e.g., Adam’s list), enter the list name.

6. Click Save.

After a few minutes, trigger the routine manually (if you’d like to test it):
go to Routines > Your Routines > My Reminders, then click the play button.

Quick Tips:

  • Each Echo device has its own routine settings, so you can customize reminders per device.
  • The task title becomes your reminder text.
  • To check existing reminders on Echo device, say
Alexa, show my reminders
